Thanks to our fellow Rotarians Ruthie Ravenel, Digit Matheny and Rob Byko for providing their insights on trends in the local real estate market. Even with a lot of economic uncertainty the market continues to perform well as Charleston remains a desirable re-location destination. Out of state buyers help keep the market buoyant although interest rates remain a concerns among first time buyers.

Board of Directors Nomination and Election process – Election Date is DEC. 10th!
Our Rotary Club’s Nominating Committee is proceeding with our Club’s Board nomination and election process, which will culminate at our regular Tuesday luncheon meeting on Election Day, Dec. 10th, when our Club’s membership will elect 4 new Board members, with 2-year terms to begin on July 1, 2025. This is a multi-phasic process in the Oct. to Dec. time frame each Rotary year. Thus far this Rotary year, we have completed the following phases, guided by our Club’s Bylaws:
-
- In Oct., President Robert Sullivan appointed a Nominating Committee, as specified in the Club’s Bylaws, consisting of: the 3 immediate past presidents — Cleave Ham (serving as Chair), Rob Dewey, Paul Stoney; the 3 Board members who rotated off the Board on July 1 of that year – Amy Page, Michael Smith, Dan West; Executive Secretary — Carroll Schweers
- Carroll, as Executive Secretary, produced a complete roster of those Club members who are eligible under the Club’s Bylaws to serve on the Board of Directors, yielding 34 Board-eligible candidates
- Nominating Committee members have contacted the 34 eligible candidates, to determine those who were not only eligible but also willing and able to serve on the Board in the next Rotary Year term if elected by the membership, yielding 9 member candidates on the ballot for election to the Board on Dec. 10th .
We are now in the notification phase of this nomination and election process, to notify membership of the names on the ballot ahead of the annual election date:
- Candidates’ names were announced at our Tuesday Club meeting on Nov. 19th, and will be announced again at our Dec. 3rd Club meeting.
- Print candidates’ names in the Keyway
List of Board-eligible members (alphabetical order) on the ballot for Dec. 10th election, to serve if elected as a Board Director with terms starting July 1, 2025 (4 new Board members will be elected from this list):
- Karl Brady, Sr.
- Karl Brady, Jr.
- Cody Callarman
- Rob Dewey
- Clara Heinsohn
- Richard Kelly
- Steve Morse
- Mickey Renner
- Connor Spangler
Please note that Cody Callarman is currently serving a partial term on the Board as a Board appointment to fill the remainder of a 2-yr term ending this Rotary year on June 30, 2025 vacated by a prior elected Board member; therefore, in accordance with our Club’s Bylaws, he is eligible to be on the ballot to be elected for a full term by the membership for next Rotary year w/o having to wait a year between terms) How to cast your votes for the 4 new Board members:
- Members can vote in-person (encouraged) on Election Day, Dec. 10th, or by proxy ahead of the Dec. 10th election date if unable to attend in-person
- After the Thanksgiving break, Carroll will be emailing to the membership the instructions for proxy voting in the week prior to the election
THANK YOU to the members of the Nominating Committee for their efforts in this nomination and election process. And, THANK YOU to the Board-eligible members listed on the election ballot for offering to serve on our Club’s Board of Directors. New Member Orientation The next New Member Orientation Session is scheduled for December 3 at 11am. All new members who have not attended a previous session should make plans to attend. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about our club and Rotary International. Attending one of these sessions is also one of the requirements of all new members to earn their BLUE Badge.
Membership Committee Needs Volunteers
The Membership Committee is looking for a couple of volunteers to meet with a new member about once a month. The objective is to meet with the new member one on one to answer any questions, discuss committees, reasons for joining, goals as a member. In summary, it’s a personable meeting to help get them on their blue badge path and optimize club experience. If interested in becoming involved on the committee, please contact Connor Spangler at [email protected].

Hurricane Helene Continued Support

As Rotarians, such tragedies are a call to action, and our Rotary Club wants to do all that we can to create hope and help the people of Western North Carolina devastated by this disaster. Thanks to the generosity of many of our club members over the past month, we have collected $1300 in the Blue Buckets. Please take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to “spotlight” you and your personal and professional achievements. Contact Julianne Farnsworth at [email protected] if interested or for more information.

WELLNESS TIP Keep up healthy habits Make a pact with yourself during the holidays. Decide that you’ll move more and do something active every day over the next three weeks. Take it a step further, and pledge to start the day with a healthy breakfast, limit the sweets and get at least seven hours of sleep each night. If you don’t completely give up your healthy habits, you won’t feel like you have to start over once the holidays are over.
