June 13, 2023

Brian Itzkowitz, of Palmetto Goodwill gave us an update on what this great community organization is doing in the Lowcountry. As our Rotary year winds down, we thank all of our club leaders for doing and outstanding job, and a special thanks to President Paul for stepping up to run the show the second half of the year. Don’t forget the Transition Social event on June 27 at 5PM (no meeting that day).

US Army – 245 Years Old!

Join the celebration of the U.S. Army Birthday on June 14 as we remember its creation in 1775. The army originally consisted of volunteer soldiers with roots to the Continental Army — and was formed to fight the Revolutionary War. Today, as the largest branch of the U.S. military, the proud men and women of the U.S. Army continue to provide peace and security for all of us.

Please wish a soldier Happy Birthday!

New Member Orientation this Tuesday

A New Membership Orientation session will be held this Tuesday, June 20th 11:00am at Halls Signature events.  This will be right before our lunch meeting, so we encourage all new members who haven’t attended a session to attend.

If you plan on attending, please RSVP to Sandy Morckel by Monday June 19th.  Sandy’s email address is smorckel@gmail.com.

Board Transition Social – Mark Your Calendars

To celebrate the end of this Rotary Year and the beginning of our new Rotary Year, a Happy Hour Social from 5-7pm is scheduled at Hall’s Signature Events on Tuesday, June 27th in lieu of our lunch meeting that day.  There will be a “brief” meeting, but mostly it will be a fun time to celebrate the year, ring in the new Rotary year and catch up with our Rotary friends.  We hope you will plan to bring your spouse or guest and join us!  Look for an email soon about this.

Spring RCCF Grant Recipients Recognized

Our final RCCF Grant check presentations for the Spring were held this past Tuesday. On behalf of our club and the RCCF Committee, Past President and RCCF Chair Sandy Morckel recognized three local organizations with RCCF Grants.

Casey Stradcutter attended on behalf of Neighbors Together. Our donation will be used to purchase a generator, as well as other supplies, in support of the Wellness Outreach for Women (W.O.W). The generator is used for the Car Care Clinic, where women enrolled in the Case Management Program are invited to bring their cars to be checked by a volunteer mechanic.  It would also be used to support other outdoor events.

Another RCCF Grant was awarded to HEART Inclusive Arts Community to support Disability Pride, a multi-city, multi-event celebration of the Disabled identity.  Sierra Garland and two HEARTists, Sara and Bridget, attended on behalf of the organization.

The Shifia Free Clinic was also recognized with a grant to purchase (2) iPads to help with registration at free health fairs and outreach events. Elizabeth Hart attended on behalf of the organization.

We congratulate Neighbors Together, HEART Inclusive Arts Community and the Shifia Free Clinic and were pleased to support their efforts to help others in our community.

WELLNESS TIP

Stay hydrated and get plenty of rest

Dehydration is an ongoing problem during the summer due to increased sweating and perspiration. It is essential to consume plenty of water throughout the day, as well as fresh fruit drinks, lemonade, and buttermilk, to avoid this problem and keep your body hydrated.

Alcohol, fizzy drinks, and caffeine should all be consumed in moderation because they dehydrate the body. Dehydration harms regular physiological processes and diminishes the immune system. Signs showing that you are dehydrated are headaches, nausea, dry skin, and higher body temperature.

During the summer, water is the supreme remedy and needs to be consumed in large amounts. During the hot summer months, it is advised that people drink between 2-3 liters of water every day
